DIY All-Natural Sunscreen — REVISED (4/2017)

As the warmer months are approaching, I decided it was time to create my own all natural sunscreen. Why would I go through all the trouble when I could just as easily grab something from my local convenient store?

I am sure you’re familiar with the expression “Ignorance is bliss”. Basically meaning, if you don’t know about something, you don’t have to worry about it.  How I wish sometimes I wasn’t aware of all of the things and products available that were completely toxic to our bodies!  Have you ever taken the time to read the ingredients of conventional sunscreens? At least 75% of conventional sunscreens are toxic! Yes, you heard that correctly.

Not only will they disrupt hormones and cause skin irritations and allergic reactions. But there have been studies shown that many of the ingredients have been linked to cancer! Here is a link to see a detailed list of ingredients to watch out for.

With that said, here is an incredibly easy and 100% safe and effective alternative. Each of the ingredients was carefully chosen for their added benefit.  The oils in this blend provide an SPF ranging from 4 – 50. The Zinc oxide powder will reflect the sun, protecting the skin from over exposure and is also waterproof. And last but certainly not least, the Avocado oil actually blocks out 75% of UV radiation! Which as you know, is the main cause of skin cancer.

You will be amazed at how incredibly easy this is to whip up!  This literally takes minutes to create! It will take you longer to clean up than it does to create it! Not only that, this recipe actually doubles as an incredible lotion too!! (but more on that later)  I’m sure you will love this and all of the benefits too!

DIY All Natural Sunscreen SPF 50

3/4  Cup Water
2 Tbsp Emulsifying Wax
1/4 cup Avocado Oil
1 Tbsp Red Raspberry Seed Oil
2 Tbsp Zinc Oxide Powder
30 Drops of Carrot Seed Essential Oil
8 oz wide Mouth Mason Jar

Begin with a double boiler and add the Avocado oil & Emulsifying Wax to the bowl. Let melt and whisk to combine. Once fully melted, add water and mix until mixture turns white. Once mixed, remove from heat and add the Zinc Oxide powder. Combine and let cool for a few minutes. Then add both the Raspberry Seed oil and the Carrot Essential Oil to the mixture. Whisk together to fully combine. Once completed,  pour mixture into a jar and let cool.  It will turn into a thick lotion.

Happy Oiling & Enjoy!
