What are Essentail Oils and How Do They Work?

Let’s begin with where Essential Oils even came from. Dating as far back as 3,500 B.C. Egyptians were the first on record who began extensively making and using EOs for their religion, cosmetics and medicinal purposes.

Essential Oils have been around for decades. Helping and healing people for thousands of years. Oils are not a fad that someone just created in their basement. Essential oils are not new. They are here to stay. Just waiting for more people to discover their incredible therapeutic abilities.

According to the book Healing Oils of the Bible, they reference that there were 33 different essential oils listed in the bible. In fact, oils were mentioned at least 191 separate times, while Olive Oil, was mentioned by name, only 7? Among these oils were, Frankincense, Myrrh, Cinnamon, Cypress, Cedarwood, Spikenard, and Myrtle.

Essential oils are complex volatile compounds which were created from, flowers, seeds, roots, wood/bark, peels/rinds from fruits, and leaves and herbs. Extracted from careful steam distillation, they become more powerful than the botanicals from which they came. These oils are so concentrated that one single drop is made  of 40 Million-Trillion teeny tiny molecules. (that is a fact, not an exaggeration) they are also made up of 3 main groups, called Phenols, Monoterpenes & Sesquiterpenes.

Let’s start with Sesquiterpenes. Sesquiterpenes are found in almost all Essential Oils. Their primary function is to  wipe bad information from the cell memory allowing both the Phenols and the Monoterpenes to do their job.

Some examples of high levels of Sesquiterpenes are Cedarwood, Sandalwood, & Myrrh

Next, let’s go over Phenols. Phenols have antioxidant properties and high levels of oxygenating molecules. Their job is to stimulate both the nervous and the immune systems. And their main purpose is to clean the receptor sites of cells allowing the sesquiterpenes to remove faulty information from the cell itself.

Some examples of oils with high levels of Phenols would be, Wintergreen, Clove, and Melaleuca (Tea Tree)

Monoterpenes. They are present in almost all Essential oils and their main purpose is to inhibit the accumulation of toxins in the body. They then restore communication and information to the damaged cell. Once both the Sesquiterpenes and Phenols have done their job, the Monoterpenes restore the DNA in the cell with all of the correct information.

Examples of oils with high levels of Monoterpenes are Grapefruit, Orange and Balsam Fir

What it all comes down to is Science. It all has to do with homeostasis. Basically, it’s nature’s innate ability to maintain equilibrium (or balance) even when faced with external changes. In other words survival mode.

For example, how your body can maintain a constant internal temperature of 98.6° . Even when it’s freezing outside.

Another example is how plants become resistant to pesticides or harsh weather conditions. Their chemical makeup tells them what it needs to “survive” and it automatically kicks in.

All plants are homeostatically intelligent. And each one provides exactly what that particular plant needs to survive. They automatically clear out any disturbances that may be affecting it. And expel them through their roots. Creating a clear pathway again, so that it can work at peak performance.

And that is exactly what essential oils do for the body!! They are so versatile, that just one drop, from one single oil can do a number of incredible things for your body. Simply based on your specific body’s needs. Fixing the primary issues first and then moving on to where ever the “code” is broken in the body.

Oils are so intelligent that they can tell exactly where your body is “broken” and proceed to fix it. They clear out the junk and expel it through your liver or sweat glands.

Because the oils target what the body “needs”‘ first, sometimes this can lead people to believe that oils don’t work. If your body has been bogged down with chemicals from medicines or even the products that you use daily. It can take a bit for the oils to “clear the pathway”. So, it’s not that the oils aren’t working. Some bodies simply need more time.

Each plant is hand-selected for its healing and therapeutic properties. They are then cultivated, distilled and rigorously tested for purity and quality. From seed to harvest, these oils go through a 3 1/2 year cycle of growth. They are hand selected at just the right time to ensure that those oils and their benefits are at peak performance. You can get an inside look at the incredible process here.

The reason for such a lengthy and meticulous process is that if it was rushed, or even if the oils were distilled too long. Most if not all of the therapeutic benefits, would be completely lost.

Essentially leaving you with just the fragrance. Which is great for perfumes, candles, and lotions. But there would be little to no therapeutic benefit. In fact, in some cases, if it were to be used for its healing properties, they could be potentially harmful to your body.

Only High-Quality Therapeutic Grade, oils have these benefits. So when choosing your oils, choose wisely. Do not be afraid to ask questions and to do your research. This is your life and your health we’re talking about. You want to know what you are using is pure and safe for you and your family.
